Anything by Orson Scott Card is excellent.

If you are looking for a fantasy book that stands alone, try Enchantment, which is a sleeping beauty story. If you are looking for a series, the Tales of Alvin Maker are very good.

Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow series are also very good, but more sci-fi than fantasy. Same with the Homecoming Series.

Another really good Fantasy series is by Juliet Marillier. It is the Sevenwaters Trilogy, which starts out with a Celtic fairytale.

If you are looking for books that aren't part of a series, I would suggest Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine (tons better than the movie), Just Ella by Margaret Peterson Haddix, Beauty by Robin McKinley

Try Sorcery and Cecelia or The Enchanted Chocolate Pot: Being the Correspondence of Two Young Ladies of Quality Regarding Various Magical Scandals in London and the Country by Patricia C Wrede and Carolyn Stevermer (http://www.amazon.com/Sorcery-Cecelia-Enchanted-Chocolate-Correspondence/dp/015205300X/sr=1-3/qid=1159372388/ref=pd_bbs_3/102-5811695-0577746?ie=UTF8&s=books). It's a really fun book with some romance as well. Here's the description from Amazon:
A great deal is happening in London and the country this season.

For starters, there's the witch who tried to poison Kate at the Royal College of Wizards. There's also the man who seems to be spying on Cecelia. (Though he's not doing a very good job of it--so just what are his intentions?) And then there's Oliver. Ever since he was turned into a tree, he hasn't bothered to tell anyone where he is.

Clearly, magic is a deadly and dangerous business. And the girls might be in fear for their lives . . . if only they weren't having so much fun!

Try the Sabriel, Lirael and Abhorsen trilogy by Garth Nix; fantasy mixed with romance and adventure. An excellent read. The Day books by Garth Nix are also good and a much lighter read.

You should also try anything by David Almond... He's an excellent author. Some of his titles are aimed at younger teens but well Worth a read.

The books you cannot miss are His Dark Materials By Phillip Pullman. f you have read them try the other series: starting with the Ruby in the Smoke. All excellent, well written and thought provoking. Can be read and re read at a later date to gain more meaning.

My favorite when I was a youngun was the Xanthe series by Piers Anthony. Now I love Harry Potter. There are so many to choose from, especially in the Fantasy genre. Your best bet is to go to the library and look through the sections. Ooo dont forget the Laura Ingalls Wilder series! Fabulous! The Chronicals of Narnia, a Must Read!

Try the Eragon series by Christopher Paolini. It's going to be a trilogy, but the first and second are already out. Eldest is the second book in the series and is much better than Eragon (the first book).

It's a mix of Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings, with awesome dragons and tons of magic and magical creatures. There are some romantic elements, too...

Twilight by Stephenie Meyer is a great book. I would say a mix of realistic teen fiction (set in high school) supernatural/fantasy (features vampires) romance (girl falling in love with said vampire) and adventure (girl being chased by bad vampires until being rescued by her 'good' vampire).

For a more 'traditional' fantasy read try Robin McKinley. Spindle's End is her retelling of Sleeping Beauty. It is very good. And also she has one called Rose Daughter a retelling of Beauty and the Beast.

Beast by Donna Jo Napoli is great.
And I really loved The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale.

I like the Tiffany Aching adventures by Terry Prachett. It starts with the Wee Free Men, then A Hat Full of Sky, and ends with the recently released Wintersmith.
