The Director has the creativity to make the movie. The producer has the money to make the movie. The producer pays the director to make the movie, usually the way the director envisions it but alas not always, which is why producers & directors often clash... ;-)

Director's are the people that run day to day production and manage the production. Producers are the people that organize and implement the film or show.
