I am married with children and work full time. I am considering taking a GMAT course to make for some of the time I may not able to give, to prepare for the test by taking a course. Are these courses worth the cost? Who should I take it with?

I've said it before and I'll say it again, do not trust a GMAT teacher who makes careless grammatical errors. [Jay, "it's" is a contraction, "its" is the possessive.]

I used to teach for The Princeton Review and I did and still do know my stuff. They train their teachers very well. However, if you're not prepared to do several hours of homework a week, you won't get the most out of the course. And, depending where you stand already and what score the program you want to go to requires, you may not need to do much studying. You can download two practice tests (free) from http://www.mba.com to see.

Many commercial courses don't teach you much more than you would learn from a book. They are usually limited by the fact that the instructor was probably hired very recently and has little experience with the test.

On the other hand the test is very learnable but it's patterns are hidden and not easy to learn on one's own. The best bet is a very experienced teacher who understands the test deeply.

I've put together a guide for comparing and choosing GMAT prep:

Good luck.

Unless your are going to whorton or kellog or one of the top MBA programs I would not spend the money or time on the education if you are looking for it to make more money. If you dont have the time to prepare for the test then what about the program?? Spend the time and money on a professional degree CPA JD etc that is of value, but MBA grads are a dime a dozen.
