I see a lot of players (like steve smith for example) that attended a JUCO before going pro. Are they mainly football oriented? Anything you can tell me about how these work will help greatly. Thanks!

Players usually go to a JUCO because they didn't do well in school. They do not have the grades to make it to the big time schools. In Steve Smith's case, it could have also been his size... a lot of D 1-A schools feel that he needs to prove himself against better competition before they take a chance on him. JUCO players typically transfer to a bigger and better school after a year or so.
