The hibisucs has been planted since spring and is now about 5' tall. It is very strong and healthy. I was wondering if anyone from the zone 7b area (MS) has had any success with leaving them in the ground over the winter.

I live in Central FL, and thank you for stating where your Zone is.

Hibiscus is prolific here, and personally I'm not a fan, but the root system if well established, even in MS may mean you'll have die off in winter, but pruning it back should be a habit anyway, and in Spring, just after a final frost, if you prune the plant, it should show fresh new growth in the appropriate timing that the Earth already has on its schedule.

Are you in north or south MS? South MS they will die back to the ground most times in a severe winter, but a mild winter they may stay big. They will regrow in the spring, usually from the roots.

I wouldn't. I'm in Texas and I left one out on the patio. Needless to say, it didn't make it. They just can't take the cold.
