The thing is fashion designers choose skinny models because they want the clothes look perfect. But when they produce their products they make all the sizes otherwise fat people would be walking around naked all the time.
Personally, I don't like girls who are just skin and bones, that doesn't look healthy or attractive, not even a bit. And it's so weird that normal weight and slim girls consider themselves "curvy" because of these real skiny boney ones. Like I watched one time Jessica Alba on tv, and she was sayin something like "oh I love my curves, I'm not one of those skinny model type girls" This is ridiculous. She is talking like she is friggin 30 pounds overweight.
It's really bad someone considers me "fat" or "not skinny" because that someone cannot see my ribs on my chest?!

It's really stressfull to stay thin in that business, especially runway. I've been in the business for awhile, and luckily I can maintain the size 2 or below requirements, without resorting to harmful things. And if my body changes for some reason then my agent doesn't stress out, she wants me to be healthy. The only reason why runway models have to be a certain size is because they have to fit into designer clothing, which is best fitted on a size 4, 2, & 0. That's what makes the designer's clothing look attractive and appeal to the audience's eyes. I do believe some models take it to the extreme, but they could be dealing with other issues as well. But I do agree that there should be a variety of sizes because not everyone in the audience is a fashion analyst or writer, especially if runway shows are shown on TV.

I honestly think nicole ritchie is disgustingly thin. Most people don't know that eva longeria is only 98 pounds. I'm use model and weigh 115, I believe being better portioned, even heavier with some heavier friends, sells merchandise more realistically to the very large public, not the few celebs in contrast. More money to the company and a more comfortable public.
ps. Marjority of US women of breasts, if you wiegh only 90 punds you won't appeal to the average woman

One reason they have the girls so thin is because the makers of the clothes can put them on different models with out having to make adjustments. They are all the same size, too skinny!
I think they need to feed those girls and put some hips and butts on them!
I could never be like that so I don't even look at those pictures. I look at stuff I can fit into.

models just have to be unique and stand out. I hate Paris Hilton as a model, but Kate Moss definitely has an attitude.

i know what u mean. i have nothing against thin models but i think there should be variety then a lot of girls who aren't size 0 or 2 and isn't 5'10" could still work as a ramp model. and teen girls wouldn't have to think that they have to be skinny in order to be considered beautiful. now there r a lot of plus size models. i think thats a good thing.

Well being that the purpose of fashion modeling is to sell clothing, I think they should come in all shapes and sizes since people come in all shapes and sizes. It's as if designers are saying that their clothing is only made for thin people.

well..most designers say that the clothes look best on tall thin women. beauty has always been the most unattainable looks. a while ago, when only rich people had lots of food- the cuvy look was in. now most people are overweight and dumpy so thin is a little better. its all in how you look at it but the people selling the clothes prefer more slender looks

There definitely needs to be a variety. It's boring looking at the same type of chicks all the time.

I think the models should reflect what women look like in real life.
So the current image portrayed on the runway doesn't cut it for me and sends the wrong message to women.
