You can but I would use either graphite or a product like tri-flow to do it. WD-40 is part alchol based and will evaporate after a while. Use someting with more oil in it.

Wd-40 can be a nasty lubricant because it can attract dirt and grime- hope that helps.

You can but you don't need to. Check both ends of the cable if you are having trouble.
