I was given a ticket for supposedly parking in a staff/faculty parking space but there were no signs stating this...

Pay the ticket. Univ. police are independent from the town police. You can go and try to talk to them and get out of it, but most likely you will have to pay it. They can hold up your grades and delay your graduation if you don't.

I would take a picture of the spot I was parked in and file an appeal with the Parking division on campus.

plead not guilty and ask for a hearing, they will probably dismiiss the ticket if this is your first time, if yiou do go to a hearing, document the fact that there were no signs at the place of the alleged vioplation. take photos of the location to bring with you
