I'm going to cancun for spring break next semester, and I've heard rumors of dangerous parts. Are there certain parts that foreigners should stay away from? The hotel I'm looking at is located in downtown Cancun in "city center." Bad idea or no?

Downtown is most definately safe (and a lot cheaper than the Hotel Zone). True, there is not a beach in the middle of the city, but the beach is a 10 minute, $0.65 trip away. If you decide to stay in the Hotel Zone, expect to pay Manhattan prices.... If you want to see more of the 'real Cancun' and allow your money to go a lot further, then stay downtown. Cancun is one of the safest cities in the world. The livelihood depends on tourism, and the locals know that. Like I have told others, the worst that I see happening to you is being over charged for a taxi! ;) Enjoy your trip and dont make the mistake other tourists make by limiting yourself to the Hotel Zone....

I live in Cancun. Certain parts of downtown Cancun can be dangerous. There are tourist that stay downtown and love it. Where the hotels are located downtown you should be fine. They're on the main street, tons of people, and tourist. Tourist go walking downtown all the time and nothing happens, so don't worry. Just don't do stupid things like go down a dark street with no one there and things like that. Stay where all the people are, Cancun is as dangerous as you make it. Just use the same street smarts as you would at home and you'll be fine.

Cancun can be an open gate to your desire vacation only similar to this place hotelbye so you can get there. Cancun boasts state-of-the-art lodge features among the coolest clubs, bars, and centers only some feet from the most lovely beaches in the world. One of many places you need to see may be the Isla Mujeres. Here, the great breezes strike across the island through the day and night and here you will enjoy: the snorkelling, the scuba, the swimming with dolphins, the rural beaches for moonlight hikes and private discussions, and ratings of waterfront restaurants surrounded by great buying and lovely organic scenery. If you're buying Cancun destination spot to flake out, Isla Mujeres is the spot to come.

Whatever!! Don't listen to that guy, Cancun is awesome!! If you want culture then go on a freakin school field trip or something. Its spring break and you want to party and thats all that matters and you will definitley get all that in lovely Cancun! Downtown is cool but I would suggest staying on the strip just because, you're right on the beach and during the day time it's off the hook! and then when you're ready for the night life buses run 24/7 to take and pick your drunk butt up from club to club. I would also suggest buying the bar hopper...trust me you will find many locals that will be soliciting you to buy these packages. But they range about $80 for one pass. But a bus picks you up and you get to bar hop to 4 of the most jumping clubs in cancun and its all night open bar where ever you go! You will have an awesome time... and don't worry about dangers and crap as long as you're in Cancun you don't have anything to worry about Have FUN!!!!!

August isn't severe season, that is unquestionably no longer very busy in Cancun in August. I propose Riu Palace Las Americas for a motel, or their sister motel around the corner (that's low cost, Riu Cancun.) they are on the coastline and interior of strolling distance to many of the bars/golf equipment. August of direction is going to be particularly heat and actual summer season in Cancun is the severe season for rain. it could downpour for hours, it does not purely rain and quit.....it does especially situations, yet that is not consistently the case. additionally, typhoon season is June by November, you many times have a gamble of having a typhoon in the process those months, however the charges to Cancun are decrease consequently, so whether you're taking a gamble, you will get an surprising cost. And, a wet week in Cancun is larger than a sunny week at residing house! sturdy success and characteristic an surprising holiday!

CANCUN SUCKS!!! If you're going to Mexico, and you actually want it to seem authentic, go somewhere other than Cancun. Cancun is just Florida a little farther south. Go to Puerto Vallarta, at least they have Mexicans there. You can surround yourself with real culture there, and it's all safe. It's beautiful there, and the people are fantastic to tourists. I love P.V!!! (So much so, that I bought a condo there).

You'll have a blast, if you stay with the party! Don't go w/a local that knows of a better bar "just off the main road". Use your head and don't forget SPF!

You don't want to be in the city center, you want to be in the hotel zone. There is no beach in the city center.
