As most people have said:
Intelligent is someone who is brainy and sharp and has an ability to think quickly and understand things without too much effort. These need not be intellectuals.
An intellectual is someone who pursues intelligence and understanding and takes up some or other forms of study as a step towards gaining intelligence. Or someone reading a lot or trying to pursue understanding. A university student / graduate is considered an intellectual, or someone working within a professional capacity.
When i was in high school, an intelligent boy decided not to pursue a university education, so he was not intellectually inclined, but it didnt make him less intelligent.

I 'd say intelligence is the ability to absorb info if needed, work things out, and adapt to varying situations, to resolve a particular problem, irrespective of aquired knowledge or exam rersults etc, ie a clever so n so,
Where as intellectual i think , is the liking (if thats a word) for study and learning and has aquired knowledge by doing so, and so appears cleverbut ifact a living bok of facts etc
Taking each to it's extreme, given a problem an intelligent person is able to think 'out the box' to resolve while unless the intellectual has been taught or can look up will fail.
eg intellectual people normally have the power jobs that shapes our lives, yet they make such a mess of things, a typical job function that .is full of intellectuals is HR (Human resouces) they are like fish out of water if they can't refer to some manual or guide line somewhere ' I'll get back to you ' ye Sure !!!! enough said. Hope you not in HR lol
In short like chalk and cheese really.

Intelligence is the ability to acquire and apply knowledge.
Intellect is the power of objective reasoning and understanding.
EDIT: everybody seems to be getting them the wrong way around. Intelligence is pure knowledge and the application of it; intellect is the ability to understand and reason. Not the other way around.

Why don't you look them up in the dictionary and compare and contrast the meanings? There are similarities and differences. Are you trying to figure out which one you should use in a sentence?
