Hi, I have finally decided to go for the Dewalt DC984 cordless drill/driver. Just need a few comments from people who have this model only. Anything regarding power, reliablity, speed, battery life will be useful before I part with my hard earned cash! Many Thanks.

The dewalt feels well balanced in my hand and the weight is not too heavy. This DC984 model is within my price range, the DC988 18v is a bit more money and not sure the 18v makes much more difference? Someone said the chucks are wobbly after so much use! Is that true? Perhaps someone has bashed it about or dropped it! I just need it to put my kitchen cabinets together and help build storage in the bedrooms.

I can purchase one for £120-135.

I think that is too expensive and you can get a lot more for a lot less.

One thing to consider is that cordless tools are most definitely not a lifetime investment. The batteries are only good for about five years and the cost of replacement is often near the cost of a new drill. And the chucks tend to go wobbly too after some time.

The brand and model you are looking at is pretty decent. I can't say the same for the battery though.

I'd say go for a corded Dewalt. It is by far the best choice.

Ya I have this drill myself. its a good drill the batteries dont really last long, thats a Dewalt thing really. The drill itself is good though. Do yourself a favor though and really look into why you want a Dewalt over other construction grade tools. Is it cause your dad or other family members use Dewalt or is it cause you like the feel of the tool in your hand. Really look into this cause there are many tools out there with more power and better options(ie rubber grip, rubber nubs on tool as to not mark any surface when put down) and bettre waranty. Dewalt has a very poor waranty if you ask me. I yell RIDGID all the way, and I have use other tools like Bosh,Porter Cable,Makita and Milwalkee.

These are all-round very good cordless drills, I have a 14.4v combi and a 18v combi, the 18v is alot stronger hammering into masonary but other than that they are pretty similar, although a bit more expensive than other cordless drills I have had both mine for around 4/5 years and I use them nearly every day, they both still give excellent performance and I would recommend them to anyone who wants a tool that will perform and last.

I have that drill, and many others, actually six. Other than my Millwakee being heavy - it's my favorite. More power. And the batteries on the dewalt have had to be replaced once, so keep them at full charge, and the chuck screws up sometimes.

You cant go wrong with a Dewalt. I have the DC984 and its balanced beautifully. battery life is very good, just what you expect from Dewalt.

Good choice

There were so many woodworking plans with this collection and you will not believe this but there are over thousands plans in the one package deal. Go here https://tr.im/nxUlC
This is really something to find that many all together. For someone like me who is just really starting to get involved with woodworking this was like letting me loose in a candy store and telling me I could have anything I wanted. That was my dream when I was a kid.
