Obviously... if you have to ask... you have no experience with really large shafts, or anything French. First you need to call a landscape person to check out the drain and then perhaps a plumber. If you do nothing, chances are you'll end up all wet (one way or another).

Why dont you move in to it? It could be fun! Take some old mamas and papas records and a computer, so you can press the button every 108 minutes! You could even get a friend to make polar bear noises and blow black smoke at you if you try to escape!
