I long for the day that republicans were responsible stewards of our resources. They were respected by conservatives, liberals and democrats for their strength of character, their commitment to that which was honest and their devotion to the Law and the Constitution. What ever happened to Mr.s Goldwater, Reagan, T. Roosevelt, Lincoln etc.

It really isn't as clear-cut as all that and never was. Social Security began under FDR, but Richard Nixon is the one who established automatic annual increases (indexing) of Social Security benefits to match increases in the cost of living, and he extablished Supplemental Security Income (SSI), as well as OSHA and EPA to protect the working man and the environment.

And were Democrats REALLY for the "working people" or just for the backing of the trade unions at election time? When I see Democrat bumper stickers, they often carry a union label.

The Democrats have stopped beating that drum, but you notice any tax decrease is only for the wealthy according to them.
