If you park in an area where there is a clear sign stating that the owners of the car park employ a private company to handle fines and clamping then it is legal for the company to immobolise your vehicle. It is, after all, private property.

If you have parked where there is a notice telling you that you will clamped and charged for release, the law considers you to have accepted the deal. Clamping you is their half of the bargain and paying up is yours. If parking where you got clamped wasn't a nuisance the landowner wouldn't have hired a clamping company.

Clamping is only legal if the owner of the land has hired them to clamp .
Removing the clamp by force is also an offence (if you are caught).
Another way is to deflate the tyre and remove the clamp that way.
Be careful, clampers usually hang around to collect the fines and they are generally not nice people.
