i found two......neither say exactly what you asked, but the closest i could find....

Ortega y Gasset. I don't know if he said it with those exact words though, and also you may be talking about somebody else that also said something similar.

It sounds logical. Unless you are a genius, you'll lear your role in life and the particularities of being a human being through the knowledge of others.
