Anywhere they want to-
BUT
They don't get legal recognition. Several states have 'domestic partnership' laws- most of which are almost worthless.
But what is a marriage anyway? It's a promise between two people that is celebrated in front of their friends.
Until the US gets a clue about 'freedom and equality ' for all it's people, and until ignorent people grow some brains and realize that a same sex couple getting married does not turn local kids into flesh eating sex crazed batwinged demons- we're kind of stuck figuring out alternative positive ways to affirm our relationships.

Only MA allows gays and lesbians to be married.
Civil Unions are legal in Vermont and Connecticut (all the state rights and benefits and responsibilities of marriage).
Domestic Partnerships (some of the state rights and benefits and responsibilities of marriage) are available in California, Hawaii, New Jersey, Maine and the District of Columbia.
