Please only helpfull advice... We are working with rookies this year little leaguers we have won 1 game and lost badly last night.. we have had a total of 3 pratices and 2 games we have 12 kids only half want to listen and pay attention.. The other half play in the dirt and chase bugs on the field why? In practice we go over and over what they need to be doing in reflection of this doing this last night they got creamed 12 to 4 so my question is what can we do as a TEAM to pay more attention and get with the program because when they are on it they are GOOD....

Yep, I coach ....fun aint it? There are some good instructional drills in the front of the little league handbook....We use this thing called alligator hands to help them learn how to field (glove hand on the ground ...other hand strait above it like an alligators mouth)...it makes it more fun an helps them focus a little better....also what's important is to break them up into smaller groups....have one coach work on throwing with 4 kids another on batting with 4 kids and another on catching....this helps to keep them from picking daisies or practicing karate moves on each other when they should be learning to play ball. Lastly, sometimes it's good to create small competetive learning drills...like who can thro to each other without dropping the ball so many consecutive times...the losing teams have to run a lap....also helps with the focus thing...most important though...make it fun...who cares if they lose a few...in the end you've spent time with your child and that makes you a better parent and it's something your kid takes with them for life. Good luck!

I use to coach little league, what you need to do is break the 12 kids up into two groups ... and hopefully the all the kids will start to pay attention. I know it's hard ... we had the same problem last season ... and that's what me and my partner did and it seemed to work ... try it and see what happens ... let me know how it works out!

Try breaking them up into smaller groups, outfielders with outfielders, infielders with infielders, pitchers and catchers. This will allow you to work more one-on-one and keep them all busy also. I would not call 12 to 4 getting creamed. When I played we would often beat teams by more than 20 runs. We beat one team 45 to 8. 1982 AAA Oregon state champs!!

I played softball for 10 years. Our coach bribed us with money. Who ran the fastest, got the dirtiest from sliding, etc.

Girl, you know what gets people's attention these days! Throw some dollars in their faces!

It depends on what u do in practice. The practice i use is just like in a game we scrimmage. If u are not into that make them run around the bases every time they don't listen. My players did like to practice and it showed in the game they listened so i hope this helps.

at that age its usually what happens. The ones who enjoy the game will listen to you so concentrate on them and maybe the others will follow their lead.
