This is a difficult situation to find yourself in. If I were you I would talk to your friend and ask him why he did what he did and also ask him how he would feel if you did the same to him. If he listens to you and takes notice and realises he made a mistake maybe he deserves the benefit of the doubt. However if he just shrugs it off as not a big deal then maybe your better off without your "mate".

Let him know that you are not happy with the way that he handled the situation. Then, if he does it again, recognize that this is not the type of person that you want to be "mates" with.. and move on.

You need to talk with him and tell him how much you don't appreciate that. Decide how much you really want to be friends with him and go from there. It says a lot about his character though so I'd be wary from here on out.

don't be his mate, or at least try to find out why he did this to you, only you can decide if friendship can be regained, sometimes we all make mistakes, your friend may really be regretting acting as he did, give him the opportunity if you can to explain.

You don't need that kind of treatment, and He doesn't think much of you or He wouldn't have treated you this way...Find some one who appreciates you and that will uphold you in front of others not put you down for their own selfish interest.
