It seems that taking the action to set a flag on fire in the midst of a protest is not free speech but an action, our actions are limited. So, how could setting a flag on fire fall under free speech?
and i do understand the differnce between a protestor lighting one up and the local VFW burning one that has gotten tathered.

If this country was still run by common sense, instead of liberal judges,it would obviously be deemed an action.
These same type of kooky judges found the right to kill babies somewhere in the privacy clause in the constitution. Why can't i legally smoke crack or shoot heroin in "privacy" then?
What would happen if i "expressed" myself by shooting flag burners?

the flag burning was decided and "interpreted" by liberal judges. I agree an action is not speech. The flag burning issue is close to the heart of left-wing haters in our country, not as a symbol of free speech but their true feeling for the country, and vets that has allowed them "protected hate"

The movie "The American President" gave a wonderful speech on the importance of freedoms in the US.
"Then the symbol of your country cannot just be a flag. The symbol also has to be one of its citizens exercising his right to burn that flag in protest. Now show me that, defend that, celebrate that in your classrooms. Then you can stand up and sing about the land of the free."
I'm not much for quoting movies, but this excerpt makes an excellent point. This country was founded by people who had been persecuted and, in the past, welcomed those who were unwanted by their countries. On the tablet Lady Liberty holds, "Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
Much of what this country was founded upon, most especially freedom, is squabbled over because it offends someone. We living in a politically correct society which is oversensitive. When we learn to live in peace even though our views do not agree, then we will be again "the land of the free."
The fact that a burning flag may offend you is fine with me. It's your right to disagree with it. But, it is MY right to burn it.

It is pretty perfect to term the flag burning an act of disrepect and as such it is an action but it also signifies an expression of one's feelings, not necessarily in loud words!

The flag should be respected. That's like someone peeing on the Lincoln Memorial...just disrespectful. There are people everyday that fight, and die for this country everyday...who die under that flag. The respect for this country is gone...and chaos is soon to follow.

Good grief, no forget about our economy, outsourcing of jobs, immigration, health care, school systems, the war in iraq, please dear God lets mention flag burning.

I am totally against any sort of disrespect for Old Glory. Republicans have been in power for over six years now and have done nothing about it. They have taken the 10 commandments out of law, and taken God out of the pledge of allegiance. I say it is time for a change.

Communities have the right to set certain standards of behavior and decorum.
Waving fire is neither peaceful or safe
No illegal fires.
Prosecute that

No matter what you say, someone will turn it and twist it and contort it so that it fits neatly into their agenda. You are right, it is an action and should be treated as such. But what I really don't get is, if you don;t like it here....LEAVE.
