Both would do well. You should think about where you plan to sell and check out what is most readily in the area and fill the gap.

I think handmade purses sell better than handmade jewelry. Oftentimes, handmade jewelry implies that it's costume jewelry (unless you're a very skilled gemologist and you own a lapidary). I prefer to have a purse because it has a function (while at the same time you can show it off). A piece of jewelry is nice, but I think it's just for show.

Jewelry- the only thing about purse is- you have to really keep up with the styles. Also they have to be made extremely well and I have found that most artist don't stand behind their purse.... like if it broke to faulty sewing they won't take them back. Most purse designer actually draw their stuff and have it made overseas today- this is huge in London- so you can get cool designs but very well made purse. Also they can control the price better. Jewerly is a little easier... takes up less room, style stay pretty much the same... and less labor involved.
Not to say you shouldn't make purse but maybe you should try making a couple of each- WRITE down how long it takes you to make each piece plus the cost of the supplies. Try selling them- and compare it to what your time and cost was! Then go from there. Just take good notes and keep all your receipt for tax write offs!

I don't really see too many handmade purses I like. And I make my own jewelry, so I don't think I'd buy either. But I have sold handmade jewelry before...

hanmade purses, but depending on the look. I love making my own purses. I'm not quite sure about the handmade jewelry, I would have to see an example.

I would buy hand made jewelry but not the purses. I have been to a lot of craft shows and boutiques and hand-made purses just aren't very fashionable.

Purses are the new shoes. Everybody must have many many purses say the fashionistas. I am carrying two at once and making everyone a purse for Chrismas.
