I quit smoking 10 years ago. I don't think I'am special in any way. If I made it, anyone can do it... I just stopped smoking. As easy as that. YET you just have to see the problem one day at a time, and if for me it's been 10 years, even today I have to fight myself not to smoke another cig. But it's not as if it was a big fight. I just recall the time that has passed since the beggining and whata waste it would have been.
And I feel much cleaner inside, because I used to wake up with my lungs full of "durt"...
You have nice day. V.

I quit smoking awhile back but I know noone has ever proved second hand smoking is more dangerous than initial smoking. That flies in the face of reality. The smoker has already filtered out some of the carcinogens, tar chemicals and smoke with their own lungs. There are probably sites that will claim the 2nd hand smoke theory but if I heard it from the Surgeon General, I'd be more inclined to believe the 2nd hand smoke as being more dangerous.

Actually it's not all in your "brain" it is a physical addition and the chemicals that cause the addition are being increased .
You are right it is EXTREAMLY difficult to quit !
After 38 YEARS of smoking {and many yrs. of saying when it's my idea to quit I will } I desided to QUIT , not to try to quit but QUIT
that was 6 mo. ago !!! I used the nicotien gum and I did it !
I am so proud of myself , and I feel great . I was one who always said I would never be able to do it , but I was wrong .
I do agree with you , people who don't have additions should leave you alone ! All it does is pi** you off and make you want a cigarette .
I hope someday that you make the decision to quit like I did, because if I can do it anyone can , and you will love the way you feel ! Have a wonderful day !!!

Here here!!! Totally agree with you! I tried the patch, hypnotherapy, tablets you name it ... I can't quit and i get really annoyed when mixing with non smokers who procede to lecture me about my bad habits, never mind when they can corner me alone and whisper "Can i ask you for a cigarette? Shhh!!! Don't tell her/him" !!! I'm not joking either! happened to me yesterday and this morning! I tell my family that indeed i'm an addict but! I pay for my fags without robbing them blind/assaulting defenceless people to steal off them and when i smoke more ... I can still drive home without killing anyone because i can still concentrate on the road etc. Finally! Neither my partner/children/dogs can claim to have been abused by me because i had too much to smoke! So i too feel peeved and it seems to me that my smoking doesn't half contribute as much to global warming as nuclear stuff, pollution etc! I know i'm in the minority but hey! Unlike some anti smoking fanatics ... I do have a life and i'd rather be what i am (Smoker) Rather than a bore!

Why does anyone do things they know is bad for them? The list is endless,
*Big Macs can cause heart problems!
*Too much exercise can cause muscle spasms!
*Sun tanning can damage skin!
*Drinking causes liver disease!
*and being mouthy can get you into trouble!
You can preach and preach to them to quit, but until they decide to do it themselves, preaching doesn't help. Anyone who has never smoked doesn't know its affects on smokers, and how their body is addicted to it sooooo bad...I think before anyone JUDGES someone on what they think is bad for them, they need to take a long look at their own lives and some of the decisions they have made, They may just realize that "THEY ARE NOT THE JUDGE!"
The only way a smoker will quit, is when they decide to do it for themselves not what other people have told them, some people say they are only saying to quit because they care. People who smoke are not stupid, and know the things that can happen to them if they continue, so until they make that decision, everyone else around needs to just mind their own business...and look at their own addictions!

I do not smoke, but i have been associated with many smokers who have quit or tried to quit. I realize (though not first hand) that the habit is extremely addictive. I have no agenda when it comes to encouraging smokers to quit. The benefits, I think, speak for themselves - better health, improved finances (cigs are expensive), and improved hygiene (especially body odor and teeth). Let me focus on just one - HEALTH. I am 60 years old. During my lifetime, I have seen 6 close friends under the age of 50 succumb to lung cancer leaving families and friends to wonder why he/she wouldn't quit. People like me do not hate smokers - they hate the habit and the pain and havoc that is left behind. The next time you light up, just think of the burning cigarette as a fuse leading to a stick of dynamite - that is what you are playing with. How long would it take you to get rid of that stick of dynamite?

Everyone knows that smoking's bad for you but it's your choice. Some people really do care for your health, but many just want to force their beliefs and morals down your throat. It's what they've chosen and therefore you must do the same.

In most cases, they do this because they believe that, in doing so, you might want to quit just to shut them up. It makes them feel good that they contributed something they feel is "Positive" to your life.
I was addicted to cigarettes for 8 years. You do need to just "Throw down the cigs," but there's certainly nothing easy about it. It requires a tremendous amount of will power, for even 11 years after I quit, I still get cravings that I resist. My bitter hatred of the tobacco industry fuels my will power to never light up again, as does the desire to enjoy my retirement above ground.

Because they couldnt imagine what a cigarette is like, even if they've had it a few times. They just see one side of the story, of course it is true that its bad for you and they want to act like they care when they tell you to quit, unless its your family they dont give a FLUCK.

Even worse than the non-smoker is the absolutely evil EX-SMOKER. Those people are just plain evil.
