“Any society that would give up a little liberty for a little security will deserve neither and lose both.” - Benjamin Franklin. What do you think of this quote?

I agree with it. Human nature being what it is, in order to have security we must give up all of our rights and freedoms. Liberty and freedom, like it or not, mean a certain measure of anarchy. When we give up our rights in the name of security, we create a system where we are neither truly free nor safe; the state has the power to persecute innocents since the safeguards of liberty have been removed, and the freedom to try and protest this has been lost as well.

I think Franklin's right on this one. Besides, real liberty only exists when there is security. Freedom is being able to secure yourself. In order to be truly free, one must be the master of himself and thus, secure his personhood.
