I’ve heard some of our leaders, like Bush, Rice, Rummy and Co. say we are faced with a bigger threat than we’ve ever known before, worse than Russian nukes, worse than the Axis of the Nazi’s and Imperial Japanese threat of the late thirties and forties.

the more afraid they can keep you the more they have power over you. Also the more YOUR leaders like Bush can scare you the more power they have over YOU as well. You do know they invent stuff to keep you in line right? That the government does this is very much known by anyyone not wrapped up (hypnotized and brainwashed) by the crapola that these guys espouse, things like like you are not a true american or a good parent if you DARE to NOT side with the government or the Right or if you dare believe in freedom of choice or the right to love who you want. or any crap like that. NO do NOT be afraid.Be very very MAD! you right now are being terrorized by your OWN government, everything going on is a red herring to keep you from investigating the terror at HOME by your government.

You should be concerned about the terror threat. Instead of using airplanes into buildings, do you think bin Laden would have used nuclear weapons if he had them? We now have "rogue" countries like N. Korea that have nuclear weapons and are working on missile systems to deliver them! What do you think the Japanese perspective is of N. Korea having a nuclear bomb?
Iran is apparently working on the same bomb. N. Korea & Iran are not democratic countries with elected leaders but dictatorships or a theocracy that claims Isreal doesn't have a right to exist. The people can't control their leaders by the ballot.

Remember the poison gas in the Tokyo subway system? This is just one example of what a small group of terrorist can do provided they have the "propert tools". The proper tools are becoming more available as terrorist types receive clandestine support from 'rogue' sources.

Even the old Soviet Union recognized the possibility of mutual destruction. But a group that believes they will be rewarded in their heaven for dying for their religion aren't concerned about 'mutual destruction'.

You should be concerned.

Well terrorism is real, September 11th was real, global terrorism is real, and so the threat is real. As far as being afraid I don't buy into it. I live my daily life happy and care free and trust that nothing will happen to me and my family. We have no control over it so why worry about it. I leave the worry to the politicians who over time have created this quagmire. I don't get paid to worry, they do. So I'd rather get up in the morning with fresh ground coffee, spend a little time on Yahoo Answers, sit in the Jacuzzi and listen to the birds chirping while I figure out what I want to do for the day.

That may or may not be true, it is certainly hard to argue. However, being afraid won't accomplish anything. In fact that is precisely the goal of terrorism; inducing the paralysis of fear. So, we should be wise and prepared and prayerful and courageous, but not afraid.
By the way, I just happened to look at your screen name. If I interpret it correctly and you are a Vietnam veteran, then I am preaching to the choir. Thank you for your service.

Yes I think we should be afraid but not paralysed by fear. Fear is part of the gamut of emotions human beings naturally go through in being best prepared for important challenges in life. If we are complacent and do not recognise and deal with dangers, that can spell disaster.

the definition of terrorism is the invocation of fear. There will be someone after us as long as we are the world leader. Should we be afraid? no- if the world ended tomorrow our fear would not have saved us. I suggest that everyone do what they know to be right, pray, love, respect, and forgive one another. Cuz when my time comes, I know where I want to go. Thanks vet for all you've done, and God Bless.

The enemy is real, but they are hardly the gravest danger faced by the U.S.

The enemy is real, and cowards. They hide, they sneak, and they are radicals. As to should we be afraid. I think we should be “aware” of our surrounding, but not afraid
