If the property sold recently, the Realtor may have the information.
If not, just look it up.
In the U.S, all transactions are a matter of public record.
In Illinois, the data is stored at the township or county. I don't know if that is how it is done elsewhere in the country.
To find what you are looking for, you need the parcel number and the year the property was sold..
If you do not have the parcel number, you can get it if you have the address.
Many townships and counties have this data available on line, but its not complete. Usually you need to go to the office and look at the records.

What they bought it for (unless it was less than 3 months ago) has nothing to do with how much a house is worth.
To work out if it's over priced you really need to compare it to other similar properties that are for sale.
What a house is worth is relative to the competition.
There are websites that show you what you need to know though. There are even websites that will give you an instant & current valuation of the property online.
Check out the articles below..

In which ever county you live in go to the county auditor's website and do a property search. You should be able to do either an address search or last name search. It will give you the history of owners and what each payed along with tax info, plat layout, and any delinquent tax notifications. Hope it works out for you
