Here's what I do. Don't stick to just one company. Find what u like best from each company. For me, I think Prescriptives has the best foundation... custom blended to your own skin tone and needs. MAC has the most variety of lipsticks. I feel Lancome has good cleansers and toners. Eeste Lauder has a good concealer (love the applicator on that!) and a good night repair serum. Just keep trying them and see what u personally like from each company. I know it can be expensive to buy full sizes of everything. So don't be shy to ask for samples when u are at the counter. Tell them you want to try out a new brand of make-up and they will help you. Good luck!

I switched from Smashbox to MAC and was horribly disappointed. Their foundations are crappy and the "artists" try to compensate by suggesting you plaster war paints on your cheeks to "define and contour" (sorry, I had a BAD experience in the store)
Smashbox is NOT cheap, but if you buy their foundation primer (which you can buy in color correction formulas to even your skin tone as well) and their foundation, that's really ALL you need for flawless coverage (not 6 different kinds of primers, concealers, mattifiers and moisturizers) I also love their cream eye liners. If you buy the angled brush, it's a snap to apply and it lasts all day.
Their shadows are good, but I've actually found comparable, cheaper alternatives--I'll give MAC that much, the loose shadows are good.

Do you have sensitive skin? If so...I'd steer clear of Chanel. If you like a more natural look clinique is good or Almay if you want to go the conv. store route. If you ask me, the more expensive lines are just a rip off. Did you know Lancome and Loreal are the same company?

I have very sensitive skin therefore I have to be cautious as to which products I choose to go with. It really does depend on your budget...I use Clinique and so far so good. They also have great clarifying skin care products. I have tried Cover Girl and hated it...it made my face burn. I've also heard that Bare Escentuals/Bare Minerals is good to use because it is all natural. If possible see if you can get samples to try before dishing out $ and it not working for you or your skin re-acting to it.

I like Mary Kay okay for everyday wear. . . but when you are having your picture taken or for special occasions. . . Make Up Forever is my favorite. Get it at http://www.sephora.com
Really, the foundation looks amazing! At least it does on my skintone. . . go to a Sephora store and set up an appointment. They are hella helpful, and don't try to push one certain brand on you for all of your makeup needs! Believe me, I have one of everything!

If you can afford it, use Aveda, because there are fewer chemicals and additives in it to harm your skin. IF you can't afford all their products, at least use their lipstick (my favorite color is "Sutra") because you don't want to be eating chemicals all day long!

I use and love L'Oreal and H.I.P. Colour................the color pigments are great and the makeup is priced very fair. I use most of their products like the eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara and lipgloss.
