Try going to retail stores at stocking hours. Call ahead, find out when they stock, and then go visit and see about boxes. Talk to the store lead or a superviser in advance so they know you're coming and don't destroy the boxes in the compactor. I used to work in retail and you hardly ever get lucky if people aren't stocking. Try you're local Walmart, Target, Kroger, Savemart, Vons, Food Max, Food Lion, Ross, etc. Another idea is investing in plastic storage boxes, they last a long time and can be reused and store wonderfully in a garage.

The cheapest way is going to any small local shop and ask them for suitable boxes.
Most of them will be happy to get rid of them.

Try going to Lowe's or Home Depot (any home improvement store) ask if they could save you some larger boxes. I used laundry baskets that I already had last time I moved. You could also visit a car parts store, they normally recieve their stock in large boxes.

You don't say if you are using a removal company... If you are, they usually supply sufficient boxes when they come to assess the costing/lorry size/etc.
If you are doing your own removal, how about trying to get large boxes from electrical suppliers? Ask well in advance, so that they don't break them down as their deliveries arrive.
Good luck in your new home.

You do not need to spend money on these. Your moving company can supply. However, if you want boxes, go for the flat packed cardboard box type which is ready for immediate use.
