Strangely enough, it depends on your climate. These instructions are most of Zone 7 and north.

All of your Spring bulbs (daffodils, tulips, crocus) need to go in now, as well as many tubers. (Irises) If you have Cannas or Callas, it's best to remove them before first frost.

For seeds, most can wait until spring, except grass seed, which should go down in early Fall, if you're overseeding your yard.

If you're Zone 8 or further south, oddly enough, the instruction is reverse. Remove the spring flowers (daffodils, tulips) and wrap them in wood shavings and put them in the fridge for the winter so they get their winter dormancy. But leave cannas and callas.

I don't know where you live but now is the best time to plant many things. Trees and bushes are very good now up until the ground freezes. They are also very cheap at nurseries. Spring bulbs should be planted now; crocus, daffodils, tulips etc. Any bulbs are fine. Most perenials are good now, no annuals they would be wasted. Very few seeds should be planted. They don't have time. Grass seed, however, is good if you plant it just before snow. I have had good luck with this coming up well in the spring. Enjoy.
