new is always better, especially the warranty, but the the cost is much higher...a rebuilt cost alot less, but the warranty is usually only 90 days.

A rebuilt transmission (if done correctly) is just as good as a new transmission. A used transmission is one that was removed from another vehicle, and nothing is done to it! A used transmission can be perfectly fine, or it can be junk.

A lot is going to depend on the cost difference, and the warranty that is provided. A rebuilt can have a 3 year / 36 mile parts and labor warranty, where a used transmission will at most have a 90 day, usually no labor warranty included.

If you are planning on keeping the vehicle, put a rebuilt transmission in it!

That depends on if you're rebuilding the one you already have or if you mean a completely different tranny.

If you are talking about rebuilding your transmission, then that is the best option, but if you want to replace it with another rebuilt tranny, you'd probably be better off getting a new one.

You see, cars tend to do better with their original parts so if you're going to replace the whole thing, you might as well go for a new one that won't be worn the way a different car would wear it.

But just rebuilding the exsisting transmission, replacing only the parts that need to be replaced, then you'll have more luck with everything working problem free.

If your car is just a few years old then a used one may work, but if your car is an older car the a rebuilt one may be better.

a rebuilt transmission is an old transmission, rebuilt.

so, a rebuilt transmission would be the way to go.
