I have been on Myspace since i was 14 not once have i felt i was being tracked by a pedifile. People always blame Myspace for kids coming up missing, NO its who they meet on Myspace. Somebody you dont know can't be your friend unless you allow them to. Myspace is a network to meet people So meeting people off the internet is dumb regardless. All my friends on myspace are people I know that i haven't seen in a while. So parents and any bodyelse who have a problem answer this question

Because myspace is a joke.

Why on earth would anyone want to put personal information on a website for millions to read is beyond me. That in itself shows me that most myspace users are kids(naive) and people who have low self esteems.

I don't allow my children on that website or any others like it. I have them all blocked from being browsed.

"Somebody you don't know?"
Sounds naive to me. Just because they can't be your friend? They will still pursue you if they want. ANYONE can act like they are your friend in order to attract you to meet them then rape/kill/chop you in little pieces and send you to your parents in envelopes.

"People always blame myspace?" ALWAYS is a pretty big word. That sounds like teenager talking.

Myspace and all others like it are a joke. One day people will realize. Or then again....maybe not. The world is so desensatized it really doesn't matter.

""Teens are clearly using places like MySpace to establish social status. How do young males establish social status? By posting manly, daring images and information that demonstrate independence and bravery and by being listed as a friend on as many profiles of "hot girls" as possible. And how do girls establish social status? By posting sexually provocative pictures and titillating information that attracts the attention and friendship links of manly guys. How does any teen attract attention? By posting hot, intimate information. The teens who are into playing these games are the ones who are most likely playing these games on places like MySpace.""

The reason why people think myspace is bad is because the news is always reporting some stupid news about it. My space has millions of users, yet we have 1 or 2 on the news every other week. Some people are assuming that it is bad.

You say myspace is a place to meet people. Most of the people you meet on social networking sites are ... really fake. My opinion, anyway. I mean, what do you normally say anyway to your myspace friends? Do you really talk? Or is it like, "hey you haven't added me yet" or "cools pics, post more of them!" or something similar?

But if you're using myspace to publicize something (say, *cough* a podcast), that wouldn't be so bad.

Well, why do you like myspace?

I am a mother and I posted the same question awhile back. The media has us all running scared of this huge monster called MySpace. I don't know about other people's kids, but I do trust my girls' judgement. I check on them often to make sure they are not viewing any inappropriate material. I understand that kids will be curious but they know what's out there, most kids aren't that ignorant to the facts.

I agree with you. The reason people blame myspace is because they don't want to blame their parenting skills and their stupidity for not teaching their kids how to be safe.

Because too many parents are ignorant towards the internet and don't teach their kids anything... They just let them roam free without sitting down and talking to them about safety and security. It goes hand and hand with the sex or drug talk issues. Too many parents chose to avoid the sit down talks with their kids about responsibility.
