Many times in my life (I'm over 50) people who I have just met socially, or strangers I will only encounter once ask questions that even a close friend wouldn't ask? For example, when they find out I fought in Vietnam, (you guessed it) they ask "Did you kill anyone?" This is why I try not to advertise this stuff. I've heard things like " Are those real?" asked to a girl, and many more. Why do so many ask questions like this when most don't care anyway?

I don't think that most don't care. I just think that those particularly tactless people stand out more than all the others that you think don't care about that stuff.

People don't raise their children to have any tact or common sense anymore, so the incidents of stupidity coming from people's mouths will only increase.

I, too, have had to contend with moronic questions like: What color hair dye do you use?? (I don't color my hair), "Is your ring real?" (If it weren't real, moron, you wouldn't be seeing it) and "Are those real?" (I dare you to touch and find out).

Sorry, it doesn't look like it will get any better than this.

People are not afraid to offend someone that they don't know or will never see again. But like your friends, they care about hurting you or upsetting you so they don't ask those questions.

Then there is the fact that they just can not possibly understand what it is like to be in combat and what you go through mentally. To them it is just a question.

There experience with combat is Rambo at the AMC movie theater.

They just don't understand what they are actually asking you to re-live by talking about it. And they never will unless they went through it.

Even the Vets of today can't understand it because the entire situation is totally different from the one you went through.

Well, this is the result of watching TV everyday ; they are stuck at a form of questions
they utter everytime!
Well, you must not blame people for asking any question, on Yahoo! or in life!
But if you really, really wish to know the very "why" of it, buy and read a special Book :
Dianetics!

I think it may be a case of question without thought, it runs through the brain and out the mouth. It's a common occurrence, if you ask, why do you ask? it may give them a chance to think about what they have said. And again maybe not. These uncaring people don't deserve much thought.

I guess it is because of the way that society is now a days. People are lacking many things including respect and pruedence. This free will theory is getting way out hand, people are no lomger putting limits to their action or what they say.

it is natural for a person to be curious, they do not tend to realize that they are crossing the line.... and it is more likely for a stranger to ask personal question because it may be a part of their getting to know ways.... and people who are close to you sometimes tries not to offend you i think thats why they are not asking you such questions

Obviously because their parents didn't teach them any manners. Some people also have boundary issues. Somewhere down the line, someone decided it was okay to ask anybody anything.

I have noticed that too. I think it is because there are no boundaries in the lives of many people today. They are not taught respect or limits and want everything 'now.'

its easier to approach a stranger for the simple fact that you will probably never see them again. plus they really don't give you time to form an opinion of them besides the fact that they are nosy
