Focus on a few key areas:
1. Friends;be sure there are others that share common interests
2. Fitness;Work out, stay in shape read "Younger Each Year
3. Volunteer Work; start to develop community activities to give back to others
4. Financial;work with someone capable in financial planning to see if the numbers will work
5. Education; set goals to expand your learning; Open University, language courses
If you can meet all 5 of these you will enjoy retirement;otherwise keep working!

I retired at 38, was bored to death by 39. I went on to a different career and retired from it at age 50. Now, I find it rewarding to help people in need and spend time with friends and family. Just because you are no longer punching a clock, doesn't mean you can't contribute. Good luck with your decision.

55 is indeed too young. I would imagine that 65/70 is ideal. Those above 55 certainly can contribute their experiences to the younger generation, although frankly, mobility level might drop somewhat.

Considering that those of us in our 20's and 30's watch Social Security fail, pensions fail, 401k's get wiped out by corporate corruption, not mention the 400% rise in housing costs in the last 5 years, and skyrocketing college tuition - I hardly think you're going to get much sympathy for quitting work so early. The rest of us will be lucky if we have that option much before 70.

I don't think it's too young to retire at 55, but if you're interested in your job and not feel tired of it, why not work for a few more years, as long as you can handle it.

My goals are the same, I am 52. Not sure if I will be able to. But I am not "retiring", just moving onto a self developed business to keep me busy till I die, sometime after I am 100 yrs old.

If you are financially secure then why not, have fun for the rest of your life! Life is to short to work all the time, unless you have to for the money

I don't think so as long as you have a plan in place of what to do with your time.
