I have always been partial to Wolverine and the X-Men. Now I must ADAMANTly defend myself, I don't like them because they are ultra-popular; I have been a fan since the late 1980's before most of the world new about them and before it was cool to like comics (if it is even cool now).

I love an anti-hero, someone who has just as much bad in them as good, but will help people who need it and deserve it. When they do the right thing, but they might not do it the right way or the way a "do gooder" caped superhero like Superman might. Wolverine is the quintessential anti-hero.

Batman also fits this category I think. Daredevil too.

I also like the Hulk, no body can mess with him and he has nearly limitless strength.

I also like Captain America. He is only slightly superhuman, but will not hesitate to fight anyone. Foolish maybe, but you can't help but admire that.

LOBO!

He's by far the funnest Hero/Villan /anti hero/vigilante/bounty hunter...etc character there is.

He's the last of his race, because he killed off his entire planet with a science experiment gone wrong.

He rides through space on an interstellar chopper, with no protective gear of any kind.

He destroys almost every venue he has ever entered, and hates almost everyone, but still manages to come out the hero.

He fought superman to a near standstill.

He has been kicked out of Heaven and Hell for being to much of a bada$$, so the gods made him immortal, so that he could no longer die and bother them.

There is so much more, but let's just say that if you haven't read a lobo comic then you are really missing out on a great character. Give him a try, and I'm sure you will agree

LOBO FRAGGIN RULES!

I have several, depending on the medium and the publisher. Mainstream comics, I'm an X-men fan (since the mid-80s - so not jumping on the movie bandwagon) - Phoenix rocks..

On the (pseudo) independent front, the Watchmen are superb - Rorschach (sorry about the spelling) is the ultimate anti-hero.

Matt Wagner's Mage absolutely rocks - I loved Mirth (the Merlin figure) in that - I highly recommend it - Mage is a true independent comic.

On TV, Angel and Spike are hot and fun to watch, and both Buffy and Angel are superb shows.

So many to choose from!

OK it's Spiderman, but then there's Wolverine and The Silver Surfer and I'm a big fan of Daredevil.
No no definitely still Spiderman.

I would go for Doraemon. He is the most famous Anime & Manga character of Japan. He is a blue robot cat from the 22nd century sent by the great-grand-son of the main character of the series to the 20th century to help a kid called Nobita (the main character) who is an all time looser. Doraemon has no ears though, he claims that they were eaten off by a robotic mouse. He is like a geniee from a magic lamp who can do anything from his gadgets which he gets from his forth dimentional pocket. His gadgets are really cool and they can do the most amazing and impossible things un-imagined.
Doraemon is only scared of one thing in his life, and it's a mouse.

1) He's human so everything is does is extra heroic.

2) He uses his wits and strength of will to solve ****.

3) He drives a ******* tank.

4) He is ******* mental.

5) He has his own cave.

6) He's minted.

7) He's gotten through life pretty well inspite of his name being associated with bums.

I'm afraid I can't give a definitive answer.
Daredevil and Batman have gotta be my top two because they are dark, bitter and brutal characters.
Others include Human Torch, Ghost Rider, Punisher, Green Lantern and the Martian Manhunter

Female, it's gotta be Rogue, from the X-Men.
Male, I go for Thor, Avenger and God of Thunder.

But it really is hard to just pick one. I also like Shadowcat, Phoenix (Rachel), Wonder Woman, Supergirl and Power Girl (YOWZA!!!) on the female side, and Captain America, Superman, Silver Surfer, and Rom on the male side.
