I live in a little *** town and there were two murders this month, and quite a few over the summer. Ive lived here for five years, and this was the most violent yet. Can evil be a trend?

Read up a little about world history and you will find that the world has always been a violent and scary place. At some times in the past killing and evil has been more acceptable, perhaps it's our generation's acceptance of society's ills that is breeding this "evil".

Not a trend, but yes, people in general are becoming more evil...

Look around you, and you will see that our society promotes and supposets selfishness, individualism, and unjustifiable self righteousness.

People have no manners anymore, no etiquette whatsoever, and get offended at the slightest finger pointed at their direction. People don't do their stops at stop signs, go over a red light, take up all the space on the sidewalk, can't park between the lines, and when you point these out to them, they violently react to you as if YOU were the crazy one for having any semblance of etiquette.

People today are more individualistic than ever, even more so thanks to our anti-consciousness ever growing wireless technologies such as cell phones, laptops, and ipods, who help people to regress more and more onto themselves without realising there is a world right outside of them.

Modern culture industry promotes the individualistic "trend" by supporting violence towards each other, and by supporting the rebel without any cause or excuse motif so present in today's youth.

Just walk for 15 minutes in any over crowded city to realise how selfish and individualitic modern people are.

Worst yet is the fact that all these evil people will not admit to their selfish was, prefering the path of hypocrisy. Yet all these people believe they are the right ones even if all the proof is against them.

Evil is a part of today's world the same way pollution is. I have been saying this for ages now: The World Has Shifted Backwards...

It's quite literaly Bizarro world today!

I personally do not think that people are necessarily more evil or are getting more so.

Like you I live you a small village and as a incomer to this village a few years ago I took an interest in past village life.
I searched through the library archives for information of village life. The microfiche uncovered a newspaper article dating back to the early 1920's about murders that has been committed in this so called rural idyll.

I do think that we as a society are certainly more assertive and also more aware of the evil doings of other people. This awareness has been brought about by extensive media coverage.

Good question. I don't think people are getting more evil because if that was the case then Society and humanity would move backwards.

Today, the media have far more access to us through television, the internet etc so we just hear more about evil acts then we did years ago.

Having said that we certainty need to get stronger in deterring and punishing evil people - but that's an issue for discussion another day.

Being evil is not so much as a trend but a state of being. Let me explain myself...I'm not sure how much into religion you are but if, you read the Holy Bible than u will see than the times that we are living is described in the last book of the bible, which is Revelation. A lot of the different situations that are happening today is what the Holy Bible said will be happening at the end of time.Which we are in....Scary but true....

There has always been evil people but the media expose us to a lot more than we would of been aware of 50 years ago.
Then Video films are so violent whether its crime, war, SF, the public seem to love them, even cartoons are violent showing very young children cartoon characters knocking the life out of each other, now we are seeing the results.

It can be but evil is probably too serious a word to use. I think there's indeed a trend for people to act more recklessly and selfishly. Also, people's ego seems to be so big now then if they perceive themselves as being provoked, cheated or treated unfairly, there seems to be no limit to what they will do to revenge. For some people, they would think of nothing to kill a driver who has overtaken them. So, you can imagine what sorts of horrible things they would do if someone has wronged them in some ways more serious.

I think that these days people are conditioned differently. We have television that shows so much violence, angry music, and racial hate crimes all of which were pretty non existant years ago.

It's become more "acceptable" to be angry and violent because we're surrounded by it. People would be so much happier if we all had simple lives like before television and war. Technology is the root of all evil, even though it does so much good.

There was a time I didn't believe in evil, I just didn't believe it existed but during the last few years certain things I have seen and experienced, make me believe that some people are just driven by badness.

I think people aren't becoming more evil, it's a societal problem. Take Japan, lots of violent media and entertainment there, but its a very safe place to live.
