The human mind can stretch out as far as one is willing to exercise it with education as one exercises his body, and as long as it is healthy and fit.
Education is food for the mind. For example; if you ask a doctor to describe the human body- the doctor will go into the mechanics of the human body. If you ask a scientist about space then you will get a description a few pages long.

Very profound question! There are possibly physical limits, which I doubt few ever border, but there are no limits to the imagination. Albert Einstein's quote was one of my favorites: Imagination is more important than knowledge.
Another favorite quote: The real difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has its limits.

the memory unit of the mind stores 3d images/sounds/smells etc arranged/recorded in orderly time sequences. you want to recall something, then you yourself generate a serie of chemical/quanta instructions that are sent to the neuro transmissors, indeed you are invoking the past, you are travelling to the past, even you can relive past events and analyze them. these memories being reanalyzed can even change or influence something in your present time. your mind can travel again to the present in an instant-lapsus (just the instant that separates memories that were stored during years), this means also that you (your mind) can “time travel” from the past to the present. and this “transit” from the past memories to the present status should be considered a kind of “trajectory towards a known future”. the end of this “peculiar transit” is when the mind returns to the present again. the mind imports the vibrations from the outside environment and makes/is able/is allowed to perform its own inner-configuration (establishing a range of cycles per second = the brainwave patterns = beta, alpha, theta and delta. each frequency produces different state of consciousness
Our human mind's concept of a photon as a physical entity and also the concept of distance and time as physical entities is the issue. "Light" is how our mind visualizes electro magnetic energy and due to the limitations of our symbolic thought process, to make this understandable our mind concieves light, time and distance as physical

The test of a first-rate intelligence is the ability to hold two opposed ideas in mind at the same time and still retain the ability to function.

As for limit? You can train and improve your mind but nothing is going to "unlock" potential as it's usually displayed in movies/TV/books.

You will never reach to the limit of your brain as will anyone else in this lifetime. The smartest person only used 10% of his brain.

There are no limits unless you set them yourself. Be a free thinker.
