In STATISTICAL MECHANICS &THERMODYNAMICS u can observe these vars .Basically,i know that :
INTENSIVE VARS: These are independent of matter present in the system.
EXTENSIVE VARS:These are directly proportional to the matter enclosed by the system.
The extensive vars are the fundamental quantities. The first derivatives of the ex.vars are teh intensive vars.
FOR EXAMPLE:
EX.VAR: total volume,mole number,etc.
IN.VARS:pressure,temperature,etc.

There are problems with that . In Densities we have a mass occupying a certain volume. the ratio is called the density of the mass. However in the mass stucture we have a volume which is absent of mass, nevertheless the density of the mass includes the void between the mass as well. So one ratio indicates a total volume of mass and the other ration does not.
I hope this would help you Understand the difference in these variables. good luck

Mass, quantity and style of moles are all huge and could be larger the better you've. all something are intensive. Their values gained't determination by the volume of the pattern (5 gallons of boiling water is on the same boiling aspect as 5 mL of boiling water).
