For instance, the DVDs, first the trilogy was released as the altered version, now they've released the unaltered version, which I want because my VHS doesn't work anymore.

I think he'll do a whole box set of all six films.

The con is in me being a Star Wars fan, and being unable to restrain myself from buying the respectable merchandise.

It's already been announced, he is rereleasing the films in 3-D IMAX. However I think this is exciting and not a con. Now that he's finally released the pre-1997 versions of the original films on DVD I plan to buy them, but am wary that at some point he'll release them again in better quality DVD (these DVDs are using mid-1990s laserdisc versions, I believe, which are inferior to what he could be releasing).

For all our criticism of Lucas, Peter Jackson could teach him a thing or two about conning fans, with yet another special edition LOTR set. How many hours of extras is enough?

I am a huge Star Wars fan. I have been since i was a little kid. But enough is enough with the releasing of this version and that version. What makes me really mad is that i want the new release because my VHS doesn't work either and i really want the original version.
George Lucas has made a lot of money off me and i know he will keep making money because no matter how much i complain, in the end i'm going to buy everything he releases. I already have lightsabers, figures......

Hi there, as a star wars fan my self i have to agree with you when you say will Lucas con us any more than he already has done! He is set to release a further set of figures called the "expanded universe" to be released next may 2007! The question we should be asking to Lucas him self is how many different Luke skywalker figures do we need in our collect! to date i believe their is 13 different Luke figures! He released a range of figures in each of the following years: 1977,1980,1983,1985, 1995, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006. This guy could con a dead man if he had the chance! As for the movies! He should stop pissing around editing the original version and release all 6 movies in a DVD and video box set and retire from the star wars franchise! Save his time and our money!

rumours has it that will be a 10-disc box set released
containing all 6 films - including 1st release versions

he is also doing a TV series about non-important roles from all the films
and you could always by the clone wars 1+2 cartoon series on DVD as well - they are pretty cool.

i expect what with all the books, magazines and all the merchandise - star wars will be around for ever

If memory serves.., there is a planned Star Wars Animation Series for Tv in the works.

As for conning us out of money? That is not likely. I mean, you either buy the DVDs or you dont. He doesnt promise long life and health when you buy them, so where is the con? Hello!?

Announce that he is to do the final three films from the series of 9 films that it was supposed be.

Then release the first 6 on a mega boxset just in time for Xmas.

He'll do a box set 'special edition' with 'special features' like a 'special directors cut'. It'll all be very, very special.
But, owing to the huge nature of star wars, he doesn't need to do anything, there are enough major star wars fans out there for him to make millions just sitting on his gold plated back-side whilst they flood the shops to buy figurines, books, T-shirts and dvds.
Thus is the way of the force.

Con? - George Lucas has no power over what version of disk set - movie releases etc that are released, the publishers do. And no one forces you to buy the movies, so how is it a con anyway?

He can't 'con' you out of money. It's your choice to but the stuff or not, but like you, I'm thinking along the lines of the whole boxed set. And it'll probably cost an arm and a leg and a left ti*... well, you know the rest. And my hubby will be the first in line to buy it. lol.
