I'm all for an afternoon snooze between1pm and 3pm.
The Spanish have got it right- siesta is essential.
Its becoming so bad I may have to emigrate!
However for those who have to work through the day- I normally have a brisk walk and some fruit. Junk food and coffee makes me more lethargic.
Take a break and have a chat with someone if you cant go for a walk.

The best remedy is to change your activity. You can go for a short and brisk walk to change the scenery and get some fresh air and get yourself moving - that wakes your body up. If you are stuck in an office though, you can still go for a walk - to the loo, for instance, or ask people around you if they want a drink and go and get it. However, if even that is not possible, you can try rubbing the palms of your hands (rubbing, not stroking, I mean you need to stimulate yourself so do it, feel the heat, get your palms prickly, feel the energy collecting between your fingers) and massaging your fingers (from the palms upwards to the very tips). Massaging your earlobes will help as well. And stretching.
But these are just temporary measures. To get rid of this problem for good you need to change your diet and lifestyle. Coke and cookies will only create a vicious circle for you.

Either come on here to keep the old grey cells working or take my dog for a walk, I was born at 3 pm and I suppose I should be full of life at that time but not so, we need to do in this country what they do in places like Spain and Italy and have a siesta.

Yes, I usually swim for around for about 15 mins, maybe practice a few dives, then shower, dried and dressed, thought it was only me that took a dip in the afternoon :-)

Scientists now think that we need two smaller sleeps rather than one longer 7-8 hour sleeps. I have noticed when travelling on public transport that a lot of people are napping at around 3pm ish

Absolutely, they call it three thirtyitis.
If I were in Spain I'd be enjoying a siesta but since I'm not I rely on
caffeine to get me back on track.
The Mexicans & Spanish have the right idea don't they?

Bonk...then a lovely doze afterwards. Wake up feeling fab.
If bonking/sleeping not an option, a couple of cans of Red Bull and half a packet of Marlboros!

I go for a walk and then eat some fruit. Your body needs natural sugar, not candy or sodas to get you going. And a walk always wakes me up, especially when I'm working on very boring projects.
