Creativity is not something that can be forced out, so the best advice is to look around at other designs, stimulate your brain with various other subjects, and the best design ideas should just "appear" to you.

I try to juggle a lot of different mediums when I want to be inspired. I read fiction, listen to new music, go to a museum, walk around (nature or city), or watch a movie. Keep a journal for sketches, doodles, or ideas.

You should most definitely keep up to date on what is happening in graphic design by magazines and books but when you get stuck and uninspired, don't resort to this field all the time for inspiration. The world is huge and graphic design plays just 1 small role in the whole scheme of things. Look around, be curious, and try to understand things.

Good luck! ;)

No. Your mind's eye is an ideal and wonderful present which will desire to be enjoyed. you need to use concepts to offer it with greater room to instruct its intensity and form. If there's a Hotalings or different international magazine keep everywhere close to you get to grips with it and its alternatives. As an American i will sometimes %. up Paris tournament. at the same time as that is replaced rather considering the fact that that scandal the place the Editor grow to be fired for publishing photographs of Sarkozy's spouse, it promises a seem at a international i don't see. My French is on the factor to non-existant. it is robust sufficient to study most of the articles, yet this is exactly not the element. i seem for names i'm not attentive to. I learn their photographs i seem on the internet for different references to them or for issues which capture my eye. In different words i'm utilizing it very superficially to offer my mind's eye with greater cloth to prepare dinner at the same time. MacLeans from Canada is greater like Newsweek or Time even though it additionally promises me with diverse perspectives. The library is likewise super. there is not any such undertaking as a "better" library. Small ones are as probable to have wonderful unearths as bigger ones. don't be ashamed to seem at infants books. i'm not purely speaking Harry Potter or Phillip Pullman (although the former has a brilliant form of classic folklore in it and the latter makes use of many many motifs it is worth investigating). between image books you will nonetheless discover classics by potential of Ezra Jack Keats like the Snowy Day or Taro Yashima which incorporate Crow Boy or Momo's Kittens. in case you probably did study them once you have been little study them lower back. and for sure take a number of of walks. whenever you could. the priority with automobiles is they actually shape the way you relate everywhere you're. Do those and you will discover which you're taking area on your mind's eye greater. you will not, although "improve" it via fact it is optimal and wonderful because it is. ;-)

As an aspiring genius, I often wondered how I could come up with ideas that were, you know, beyond intelligent. After thinking about it for a while, I decided being a genius wasn't for me.

Although being a genius requires thinking, and I love to sit around and think about things all day, I just wasn't thinking about the right kind of stuff. So I decided to bag the genius idea. Many people told me it was the smartest thing I ever did.

Now, because of your question, some people might suggest that it might be a good idea for you to bag graphic design idea. I wouldn't be too eager to do that. Don't listen to them. Give it a chance. You're just starting out. Just because I wasn't great at being a genius doesn't mean you can't be great at being a graphic designer.

Now, if I had studied to be a graphic designer, and I wanted to be creative, here's what I think would most likely go through my mind. I believe that I would realize that most truly creative people are way ahead of their time, and, consequently, unless they are very lucky, for the most part, their work will not really be appreciated. In other words, most of what they do isn't going to be accepted until many years later, possibly after they die.

Well, there's no future in that. So I would really hope to be less creative. Maybe be creative enough so that I do things a little differently than other designers do, but not so different that people are not yet ready to accept my work. The way to achieve that is to look at what you currently do, and what others currently do, and ask yourself what you could do to improve on that.

The answers won't always come to you instantly. You may have to sleep on the thoughts for a while. Eventually, your subconscious will come up with ideas. Either you accept those ideas and apply them, or pass on the ideas, and wait for better ones. You'll know when one of your ideas is worth applying. It'll just feel right, and you'll be eager to get to work on it.

That's all there is to it. We are basically pretty much copy cats who try to do something better than someone else. Inventors look at someone else's mouse trap and try to build a better one. Writers look at someone else's sentences and paragraphs and try to write better ones. Graphic Designers look at other peoples' work and try to produce a better versions.

You are not really stealing someone else's work. You are attracted to aspects of it, and want to improve it to the extent that it's better than it was and now represents your version of it.

Singers do that too. They sing a song originated by someone else, but apply their own voice to it.

Hairdressers do it too. They might see one person's hairstyle and then another person's hairstyle, and walk away and create a new hairstyle that includes something from each of the ones they saw created by other hairstylists.

The important idea is to remember that you are not stealing, you are improving. And, of course, there will be times when it's a totally original idea. But for the most part, we get ideas from other people. So, keep your eyes and ears open, and give thought to how you can make whatever you see better. If you can't improve on something, don't worry about it. Move on to looking at other things until you find something that leaves you with that feeling that you could do better. Then do it, and add it to your portfolio. Make sure your portfolio includes the original and your new version. It will give you a reputation for being able to improve on things. That's a very valuable asset. Employers will seek you to find out whether you can improve on something they already have. You'll either be able to, or you won't. If you can, you'll be of added value to them, and they will love you for it, and compensate you well.

Good luck in your career.

Use other peoples ideas and designs for inspiration. Don't steal them, but adapt them to your own designs

Try making a big scrapbook of anything you see that you think is cool/original/interesting. Then you can browse through it when you're looking for an idea.
