Good question. You have recieved many good answers.
Another problem is: Typing out a Q/A is soooo impersonal-It can and does lead to misunderstandings. I have had that happen to me a few times in this venue.
Most GLBT have had abuse for years and as they have said: A little pay back time.
I have been a lesbian for over 40 years and I too have collected some scars: Anita Bryant for one and being thrown in jail just because I happened to be in a gay bar and it was raided. Fun times folks real fun times-being a bit nasty here folks.
But over time I realized that to heal my wounds I fought back with kindnesses and it is true that most times it worked-not all but most times.
The scar tissue is still there but buried deep, real deep.

It is not what you say but how you say it. Perhaps some of the straight people you are referring to asked things in a rude way?
No one here is a deputized representative of the gay community that is accountable to some kind of moral public relations firm other than the yahoo community guidelines. This is the Internet and their are a lot of people on here out for trouble and they can go about what they do anonymously. Someone that posts a question here should not be expecting the best advice possible. People should expect that some of the answers they get in a place like this are going to be uncouth.
Personally, I think it would be better if people did not give rude answers. However, if a person receives many answers to a well worded question asked in a non-condescending manner, some of the answers they get will be well thought out responses. They should be mature enough to not pay attention to rude comments.

Personally, if I KNOW someone's being sincere, I do try to answer people's questions. But I can completely understand how some people are flat out tired of it. Some questions, if turned around and asked of straight people, are plain rude. ANd it's just expected that we SHOULD have to play teacher for these people. We shouldn't have to. Furthermore, we're all conditioned (if you're not yet, spend another two months on this site) to expect the worst from people. If there's any doubt about the sincerity of a question, people assume the worst because we've all been screwed over enough times.

I'd say because most of the questions, aren't questions. A lot them have already determined their theories and opionins. If it's a good question, and they are honestly curious, without their ignorant irriating comments under their question, I personally will try my best to give them an honest answer, because some really don't understand. But if it's some biggot who is being retarded, asking some lame question to get an uproar, what do they deserve? A kind and loving answer in return?

Probably because we have been the object of bigotry and ridicule for so long that we sometimes see a legitimate question as more of the same. Or, maybe we feel a need to "get back" at some of the people who have spewed their hate our way.

Because some of the questions seem just plain mean, not curious.
I try to tell the difference and answer accordingly. I'm not against honesty, but sometimes what people call honesty is nothing but meanness.

i understand what you mean. hopefully i haven't done the same things as others. Sometimes thou the questions they ask are offensive. sometimes it is curiosity and then I'm glad to answer. who knows really but some gay people may do it in revenge for all the terrible things that have been ask or have happened to them.

Some people feel wronged by how some heterosexuals have treated them. However, I dont believe that its really fair to pigeon hole the straight population. The way I feel is that as a group or culture (homosexuals) who have fought so long and hard for acceptance and equality, if anyone should be open minded it is us. We shouldnt be judging other based on past prejudice. You dont fight fire with fire, you fight it with water.

its easy to tell when someone is asking bashing questions. personally i will answer questions if they are asked by someone trying to learn. if someone bashes I'm going to speak my mind, that's how i am. gotta love the hormones...lol
as long as a question is asked in a nice way and the person is trying to learn i will give a heart felt answer

if I am certain a question is an honest one, I give an honest answer. but, even some honest questions are worded in such a context that they sound bigoted and hateful. which we see far too much of around here.
