I have decided I want an industrial piercing but the thing is I have VERY thick cartilage. I want to know if it tends to hurt more to get pierced or will be harder to heal because of this? Also does the cold from winter affect healing at all? Im wondering if I should wait till after winter or not. Also I have long hair that can potentially get caught in it. I've been reading into how to help it heal with sea salts and green tea... If you would tell me which I need for what and where to get them from I would appreciated it.

Any other information you have would be great. I'm looking for serious knowledgable answers only please.

I had a nice cross industrial in one ear a couple of years ago. It is VERY important to keep it clean!! If you let just one day go, you could get yourself into trouble with oozing and infection. Because mine was two bars, bent and crossed over each other, I had to get it done in stages. If you are able, it's a good idea to get one of the piercings first, let it heal a bit and then go back to connect it. That way, you have less of a chance of spreading infection/irritation from one piercing to the other. It's a good idea to buy the cleaner that they sell at the shop, they normally know what they are talking about and it works. Stock up on q-tips and cotton balls. Be sure to work the jewelry back and forth to get it good and clean. You can buy sea salt at any grocery store really...just check out the spices, they normally come in a jar with a grinder on the top. Also, be careful not to sleep on it, or else you'll wake up with a throbbing ear. Don't use that side to talk on the phone- germs are all over that headset. I know it's hard, but keep your fingers off of it. I hope this helps! If you're getting it done in Virginia Beach- go to the shop on 17th Street at the boardwalk, they are the CLEANEST and most PROFESSIONAL around.

Industrial peircings do not hurt as bad as the nose peircings do...they do not take long to heal. I have long hair also...just try to keep it back for awhile. I just used the anticeptic they gave me...but I think for the best part. Letting warm or hot water run on it in the shower will do the best for it. The cold does not effect the healing. Mine is in my Ear. I had it done where they do tatto's, and by someone there who only does the peircing. I would suggest only to have it professionally done since they are going through the cartilage. Sea Salts do clean peircings too. My hair rarely gets caught in it..although beware of types of blankets when your sleeping!!! Just keep it clean. It was expensive..mine was $80.00. But I had no problems with it...more with my eyebrow one. At least you dont have to take those out at jobs..my job makes me take out my eyebrow ring...I kind of let go of the nose one along time ago.
