Aloha from Down Unda!
If there's more than half remaining, it would seem to be okay to suffer the embarrassment, but anything less than half would probably be questioned, yet you could also probably get away with next to nothing, if the staff just wanna avoid any 'scene' you create. Often there may be other solutions such as coupons. Are you planning to complain that it isn't 'fresh'? Cold? When I order a 'Quarterpounder, no cheese, extra mustard', there's always a polite, 'It'll be justa few moments', but I get it to my specifications & it's 'fresh'! Sometimes it still has the cheese & sometimes the hunt for the mustard yeilds no results & then it goes back. That's why I know about the coupons! I don't get many because McDonald's staff here are exceptionally good!

If you take food back and complain in a restaurant (if you can call mac Donald's that) then they will probably spit on the food or something. If I go into a restaurant and the food is not up to scratch I would just say nothing and eat elsewhere in future.

When you're less than half way through. I'd say a couple of bites. Personally, since eating one that had sat their for a while and had gone soggy from the condensation, i can't bring myself to eat them!

Any, if your complaint is valid you get a new one.

So saying it is cold and you are halfway through will not cut it. But if you had take out you can even try the next day to get a new one without bringing 'the rest' back.

Depends on your complaint. But if your on your last bite and you find a finger call a lawyer before you return it for a fresh one!

At any time that you find something wrong with it. If they don't refund your money or change it tell them you want to make a formal complaint and ask for the address to which you can write setting out your dispute. You should ask for a receipt for the money you paid and the name of the member of staff who refused to change it. My advice is to avoid MacDonald's completely since all they sell is poisonous products created from mistreated animals.
