Absolutely DO NOT tell him. What if you dont get the job? If anything, start wearing more makeup to work and dont cause any suspicion the next time around.

I am not exactly sure of the correct response in this case. I do like the response about going to a funeral. Very creative and imaginative.
Personally, I hate telling lies. They can often cause much regret. But in this case it is not anyone's business what you are doing on your own time and a lie in this case is perhaps appropriate.
But on the other hand if you are considered a key employee that your boss does not wish to loose, then a positive response to the question might have beneficial results as the offer of a raise. But on the other hand it would be more beneficial to have another offer in hand before telling your boss that you have the offer of another job. Keeping ones options open is always a good strategy.

There are all kinds of reasons why you come to work looking spiffy including business networking, after hours appointment, dinner with friends, or job interview. Keep an air of professional mystery and keep the boss guessing.
If you give your best to the job at hand and your job interview, you give yourself a powerful bargaining position either way.. Going for the Win Win, in this situation in my opinion involved NOT telling the boss what you are doing on your own time outside of the office. If asked, you could offer that you care about being your personal best or some other value based statement, but being your personal best does not always mean -- looking for a job to get outta here. :D

I don't think it matters. If you don't want to tell that you are interviewing elsewhere and someone asks why you look so nice, just say you felt like looking nice today and leave it at that. However, it may be good for your boss to know that you are looking elsewhere...he may be inclined to offer you a raise or some other perk if he thinks you may be leaving.

Just tell them you have a funeral to go to. That will usually choke them up from asking that kind of question again. It wouldnt matter if you tell them you are interviewing or not. They cannot fire you for it; however, if there are any layoffs in the forecast guess WHO is gonna be first out the door? If they question your wardrobe or makeup just thank them for the compliment and go about your day.

you will desire to easily checklist pastimes that are related in some thank you to the activity you're utilizing for. E.g. a man or woman who desires a chef is plenty greater probable to take somebody that enjoys cooking and being innovative than somebody who enjoys cycling and socialising.
