Anything can drive you mad,if you do it long enough and you disslike doing it,but if you like numbers,then why schould it,it all depends on your likes and disslikes,we are all different,so you cant answer this for everyone.

In certain situation it can (e.g. if you are counting somethings that you all know their number before , or counting the number of gools recorded in front of the beaten team's fan....etc)
But if you are counting anything for a certain need (e.g. for work , for medical needs ...etc) of course this will not drive anyone mad ..
I think you were doing it on purpose to tease someone ..
