I've done that on a few questions mainly because the way the symptoms are described it serious enough to warrant a trip to a doc sharpish.
Alternartive medicine is great - but often as not - should be used in conjunction/liasion with your GP. Especially when conditions are serious and/or life threatening.
You also have to remember, that when people answer the questions - it's generally from the front page, ie; most recently asked questions. I'm not sure many will go to the Alternative Medicine Section and then start answering. This means that they may not be aware that they are answering or should be answering in the context of alternative medicine - if you see what I mean.

I am a big advocate of alternative medicine, but there are simply situations where alternative therapy as the PRIMARY treatment is not the best solution. Diabetes, heart disease, cancer, etc., come to mind. Often, alternative therapies may be a great adjunct to treating such conditions OR lowering your risk for getting such conditions, but should not be done INSTEAD of traditional treatment once you have the problem.
Having said, that I have seen a lot of "answers" on this board that were gross exaggerations or overreactions to described conditions, and really didn't warrant going to the doctor. In those cases alternative therapies...or simple home remedies...would work quite satisfactorily.
But, hey, that's why you hope for more than one answer...so you can get a feel for what your options are.

Kinda' makes you wonder if they have something to lose by people choosing alternative and complimentary therapies, i.e., pharmaceutical companies, sales reps, etc.
I do feel that some really do believe they are just trying to help. I, like many, used to denounce ACM until I was forced to experience it. Fortunately, the condition that allopathic therapies did not address was fully balanced by herbal and homeopathic therapies.
Mostly, though, there's a lot of unbalanced root chakras out there that feel a need to control in any way they can. Plus, this forum provides for anonymity. I've noticed that many of the nay-sayers do not provide an email address. They want to be sure to get their two cents in without any rebuttal.

Those who answer with answers like the ones you have mentioned are the ones who are only intrested in scoring more points as if that will do them a world of good and they are not exactly trying to answer the question, just trying to act smart nothing else :-) !
And the dumbest are those who would just put in a YES or a NO or THANKS FOR THE TWO POINTS ! There is a lack of the will to try and help anybody, I assume ! Can't be anything else, or could it be ? I mean what will anybody do with the two points they get after giving a dumb answer like that to a question. Or maybe they have not yet learnt to answer with intelligent answers or maybe its a lack of education or something ! Sure beats me !
Take care and God Bless you !

I have been seeing general practioners, internists and gastrointestinal doctors for the last 10 months 4 surgeries,5 hospitilizations for diverticulitis and once for pancreatitis. I went to Utah this past weekend and happened to meet a woman at a day spa who was into alternative medicine for 20 years. She is not a doctor, but she gave me such awesome advice and a diet (green smoothies) I feel 100% better after just 3 days! I have more energy and no pain. The doctors I saw "treated me" but they all gave me different diets that made me so confused-I did not know what I could eat and not feel sick. I had to go to Utah for a simple massage to finally meet someone who could help me. I live in Houston! I went with my husband for a business trip and went to the day spa while he was in a meeting. She spent 2 hours talking to me and gave me tons of info and emailed me recipes already!I wish just one of my doctors had taken that amount of time with me and given me such sound advice!

Because you should always get a diagnosis before trying to treat yourself. Taking the wrong alternative medicine can be harmful (yes ....really!!! They can interact with other meds i.e.anti-epileptic meds and st johns wort) Only a qualified doctor should be diagnosing illnesses.
