You broke it even more when you tried to fix it, you need to get an X-Box 360 instead.

You should check the fuses on the board as well as in the plug.
It sounds to me like you have an interest in electronics and to be honest the best thing you can ever buy is a little multimeter.
I started like that just opening things up to see how they worked (but I did normally get them back together working again!) and now can fix most electrocic devices. Finding parts however can be a nightmare!
If you have a multimeter make sure the machine is unplugged from the wall before opening the unit again.
Lay out the screws on the table next to you in a patteren that starts far from you and gets nearer towards you as you remove more things then when you put it back the right screw goes into the right place with the right part held in by them.
now check the fuses on the main board they look like normal fuses only smaller set the multimeter to OHM 200 range will do and put the points toger to check that the disply reads 0.00 when placed together (no resistance) so there is power flowing from one lead to the other. now place one lead of the multimeter on one side of the fuse and place the other lead on the other side of the fuse. if the fuse is OK it will read 0.00 if it is blown it will remain on 1.
This is very basic you can use the same things to test bulbs too.
Now if the fuse is blown there will be a reason for it blowing putting a new fuse in will not help until you work out what blew it!
If you smell the motherboard if you get a strong burning sort of smell look at the mainboard round that area ypou might have a lead off or maybe there is a dry joint.
A dry joint is were the component fits through the Circuit board and the solder that holds it in place has irroded away you will be able to check for them again using the multimeter but sometimes a gentle wiggle of the componets will produce a wobble underneath to spot them.
If you have a dry joint I would suggest getting someone who has soldered lots of these circuit boards before as you have to be super fast at soldering because modern resistors are surfce mounted and while you're soldering underneath the board they slide off the top!
If it's knackered then have fun is what I say!
I always took every elecronic thing that was broken apart and even used to goto the tip and get old radios the guys couldn't get to work and strip thm down and normally always was a dry joint.
Modern electroncs are very difficult to work on because of the way they are made now a robot doesn't feel pain when he's working so close to his fingers with a hot soldering iron!

Did you use ESD precautions?
The human body can generate very large electrostatic energies.
If this electrostatic energy is discharged into electronic devices, then it will destroy them.
Only work on electronic equipment if you have been properly trained and can use the right equipment to protect the electronics.
It could be just a loose connection inside the machine check all the connectors inside and pushed in properly the correct way round.
