That depends on both the street and the friends in question, I'd say. I grew up in a small town in a rural area and even my earliest memories involve being outside playing with my friends, but it's not necessarily safe everywhere.

Thats a no ,in this day and age, cars, perverts and even children are all good reasons not to let children play unsupervised out in the street. Even if you happen to live in an exclusive enviroment, still a risky idea. O,yes and now dangerous dogs are in the news again. Why don,t you let her friends come in and play in the garden or indoors, least that way you can keep an eye on things.

I have 3kids,the oldest is 10 all his other mates play out on the street, every week they bragg about it,my son isn't allowed on the street&i'm glad i don't let him, last week his mate was hit by a car,he's ok,but i live by the motto better safe than sorry.
Invite your childs friends round, get a tent in the yard, then they have a little den, that way you can see them, too many weird people around, you may be able to trust your child, but the stranger around the street you can't know who they are!Its a tough call.

I am so glad I don't have to worry about that myself, it must be so hard wanting to allow your kids a bit of freedom but also worrying about stranger danger too, I guess you could organise a parent watch for the kids, one of the parents stays in close contact with the kids while there outside playing so they can keep an eye on them or know there safe, you could all take it in turns to do that, but also learn the kids that they must never get in a car or go off with anyone and if someone tries to do that then they have to kick like a horse and scream at the top of their voices, its a cruel world we live in when it comes to giving kids their freedom.

on the street ?
I would be out watching my kids play at that age unless they were in my backyard.
if you live on a quiet street, take a lawn chair out and read a good book while keeping an eye on them and certainly not ON the street, but on the sidewalk. If you live in a neighbourhood that has no front yards / sidewalk areas, then no.

it depends on where you live and who she will be playing with. Personally, I'd never let my kids play in the street and I live in a very quiet cul-de-sac! I prefer to let them play in the garden and, if necessary, have all her friends there as well - best to keep an eye on them! You never know who is passing or at what speed the idiot drivers are going at.

Depends on the street. If it's a quiet one, definitely yes.
Our children are much too restricted in their activities and social contacts ouside school, because their parents are so fearful for them.
It's actually the most protected children who are most at risk.

If you don't feel comfortable with it then don't do it. You are the dad, BE the dad. Is it a busy street? Are there adults or older kids out there watching? Consider the consequences and follow your instincts.
