Of course. Little white lies are the grease that makes social interaction possible. 'How are you?', 'How was your day?' those are social niceties, no one really wants an answer, so you don't give them a real one.

'Traffic was terrible!' to explain why you're a few minutes late. 'Love your haircut!' to spare someone's feelings. 'Mmm, these cookies are great' 'What a lovely baby' We tell little white lies as a matter of course.

Little white lies go hand in hand with tact.

Anyone who says they never lie is either kidding themselves, or miserable, living alone with no friends, and can't figure out why no one likes them.

If we don't want to be unnecessarily hurtful, telling white lies is something unavoidable in real life. We come face to face with so many situations in which the truth would not only hurt the person, but also serve no real purpose. Imagine your colleague who shows you the picture of her grandson. Do you say "Oh what an ugly baby! I'm glad he is yours rather than mine!"? If it is the truth? No, you smile and coo over the photo, because why would you tell the truth in this occasion? Or any million others like it?

I think most of us have told little white lies and we always have something to justify it. Example: "honey do I look fat in this outfit?" oh no not at all! (spared feelings)

"You better be good boy/girl or Santa won't bring you anything."

"Put your tooth under your pillow, so the tooth fairy can give you some money."

Sometimes we lie or we keep info. to ourselves to protect others feelings. Such as, a friend is cutting down another friend yet she is nice to her face. Some people will keep their mouths shut to spare feelings. Some may tell the truth.

Yes of course on a very regular basis. It can start with the How are you? question. Even if I'm down in the dumps with a head cold, I always smile and say, Fine, thank you
