what does it take to become a counsellor?

Im in Australia and id like to be a counsellor when i grow up but i want to know whats involved. Like how many years of university and how to get a job as a counsellor.

I can't speak for Australia, but in the U.S. you need a college degree, preferably in psychology or social services, for an entry level position. If you want to go into specialized areas, such as alcohol and drug counseling, you would need an advanced degree. There are many social service agencies that hire counselors when the time comes. It's a very rewarding field!
