I am a teacher and a parent. Two points of view.
As a parent, when my daughters got ready for high school they knew what they had to wear, it was much faster without the "Oh, I wore that yesterday, and that last week, Oh!!! I have nothing to wear. They knew this part of the uniform and that part. Quick.
As a teacher, now since the school instituted uniforms we have had fewer problems of pointing out to students that clothing correct for the beach is not correct in a more formal setting...also it is easier to see which people belong in the school and which are visitors. Most visitors are no problem, but there are always those few ...

I think it is a great idea. I should first confess I am a bit prejudiced. I went to Catholic Schools through elementary school and high school. But I did hate the uniforms then:) I also send my kids to Catholic Schools--which still have uniforms. And I teach second grade in a Catholic School.
Now that I have revealed by bias--let me tell the objective reasons I favor uniforms.
It is good for kids that either can't afford the newest fashions (or their parents won't buy them or they are too nerdy to pick them out).
It is good for parents in not having to buy so much stuff.
It eliminates all the problems of dress codes. You do not have to worry about inappropriate clothing e.g. overly revealing, inappropriate sayings, on T-shirts (or elsewhere), etc.
With older kids in many parts of the counrty there is big problem with gangs and gangsta clothing. Uniforms eliminate that problem.
There are studies that show students are better behaved in schools where uniforms are mandatory.
There are studies that show students do better academically in schools where uniforms are mandatoy.

ya why not ,i think it is to sort of encourage equality amongst the students as well as a sense of uniformity & belonging to the school
besides,if you let the students wear home clothes, teachers would have more things to check with regards to the what's inappropriate list & currently with uniforms they already have to ensure that it isnt too short
lastly, with uniforms you dont need to think & plan a nice outfit every morning

Well I think students should wear whatever they want. I also think it would be fare enough to apply some rulling sothat there woouldn't be anything too short or something like that. And should students themselfs vote for that rulling. On the other hand, I think some of them shouldn't wear a thing... just kidding. Have a nice day. V.

Uniforms are the great equalizer in the school setting with out them too many kids spend their time on their clothes and not enough time on their studies.

look i can have a long debaut on this topic and fortunately today me and my frd has had a huge on this so i was in favour of wearing unoforms becoz it gives a uniformity to students as the name it self suggets this . and if we r allowed to wear watever we like to then most of us would not like to wear any thing . as our generation is moving ahead rapidly . and a school should have its own logo . ya but uniforms ahould not be like ugly or boring type .

My high school had a very traditional sort of uniform (white blouse, tie, sailor collar, skirt) and nobody really minded it too much... It does give you a feeling of school solidarity.
