And do you have any suggestions to prevent it from happening?

because the naturally grown hair is thinner at the end but when you shave you cut it in a way that it has no thin edge and it tries to come through your skin with a thicker volume and that's why it itches or grows pimples.
The best way is to wax down there because the hair grow back thinner.

Itching could happen due to many reasons. To avoid excessive itching try the following:

1. soften the hair with warm towel and/or moisturizer.
2. always use a fresh razor blade
3. don't shave against the grain
4. use long strokes
5. don't repeatedly shave one spot
6 apply a skin cream that's compatible after shave.

You probably have sensitive skin...before you shave it, just make it supple and soft by rinsing it with warm/hot water, then use shaving cream and shave...and as suggested use lotion afterwards..
If it continues to be sore and itch then i think you should talk to a dermatologist about it, maybe they can give you a specific treatment.

That area isn't one normally shaved ... so the skin is more sensitive. You should probably wax it although that's expensive - if you continue to shave, use a body lotion to cool the area down afterwards.

Once you've done it, I recommend you keep it shaved because the growing hair will make you itch even more ... and scratching your pubes in public isn't polite! ;-)

You just have to get used to it - I've shaved every week for 16 years and no itching at all now.

It's ingrown hairs. Using a loofah everytime you shower and exfoliating a few times a week will lessen the ingrown hairs and cause you a lot less pain when you shave or wax even.

Use Veet - the one in the pink tube and also buy the soothing lotion that goes on afterwards.

Be gentle down there that skin is fragile and sensitive. My friend just uses shower gel and a razor but I can't do that.

After shaving use a lotion such as baby lotion or moisturizing cream, it will take the itch away and won't go sore.
